Spousal Support Increased for Our Client

Our firm takes on a wealth of cases from all areas of family law. We deal with divorces, dividing assets, seeking spousal support outcomes and child custody matters. One case that we handled dealt with a client that was ordered to pay spousal support to their former spouse for a temporary period of time. The individual responsible for providing support claimed that they themselves were struggling and gained their source of income from disability payments.

After conducting further investigation into the matter, we found that they were actually working a full time job and the payments from it were under the table. This meant that the income had not been considered in the spousal support payments even though it should have been. After looking back into the matter, considering the evidence we presented and hearing our case in favor of our client, the court found reasons to maintain the payments of spousal support and increase them to almost double what they had been before. Based on our efforts and the facts of the case, our client gained the financial support they deserved to help them get back on their feet.

Spousal support may be granted by the court to a spouse if it is found that they are dependent for their livelihood. Payments can vary depending on the need that exists. Partner support is another option for those that are in a domestic partnership. In order to seek support, there must be a divorce, annulment, restraining order due to domestic violence or a legal separation. In some cases, it is necessary for the payments to be adjusted and this may be to raise or lower them. Call Taub & Taub, P.C. if you have a spousal support or related case and we will put our 40 years of experience to work for you.
